Geoffrey Cox, Member of Parliament for Torridge and West Devon, attended the opening of three new NHS beds at Deer Park Care Home, Holsworthy, on Friday 31 May 2019.
The decision to open the beds at Deer Park was taken by the NHS to ensure that the area has the right health and care services, and that people at the end of life and those with intensive rehabilitation needs can be cared for locally.
The inpatient beds at Holsworthy Hospital were temporarily closed in March 2017 and problems recruiting medical and nursing staff have delayed their reopening. Since their closure, local non-bed-based services at the hospital have increased and work continues to reopen the inpatient beds.
Mr Cox has maintained a close interest in the plan to reopen beds at the hospital, and raises the actions taken towards its implementation regularly with Northern Devon Healthcare Trust and the Clinical Commissioning Group.
He said: “I was delighted to attend the opening of the new NHS beds at Deer Park. This is an important first step towards returning the vital 16 beds to the town’s hospital!"
