I welcome the excellent news today that the Tavistock MIU will reopen on Monday 27 January 2020.
Since the notice of its temporary closure earlier this year, I have maintained a close and regular dialogue with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and monitored progress towards restoring this valued service.
Throughout our communications, the Trust have made their commitment to Tavistock’s MIU clear, assuring me that they were working hard to recruit additional staff to ensure not only that the unit would reopen, but that it would do so with a strong and resilient staffing structure to ensure its future.
While I understand that initially the service will open Monday to Friday (08:00 to 18:00) as the new team establishes itself, I am confident that the Trust’s intention to return to a seven-day service later in the year will be realised, and I will continue to hold the Trust to that commitment.
