Geoffrey has welcomed £9.3m of Government funding for innovation, skills training and jobs across Devon.
This investment in Devon’s economy follows a successful bid to the Community Renewal Fund for 13 pilot projects that will support the economic growth of rural and coastal communities.
The North Devon Biosphere Foundation’s Natural Capital Accelerator has secured £1.3m of this funding for an economic development programme that will harness the coastal and rural environment of Torridge and the North Devon coastline to stimulate jobs and boost social mobility.
Geoffrey said:
“It is hugely welcome that the North Devon Biosphere Foundation has been successful in securing investment from the Government’s Community Renewal Fund. I was pleased to support this exciting and innovative project when the bid was submitted, and I look forward to working with the Foundation and its local partners to secure additional funding once the UK Shared Prosperity Fund launches next year.
“This investment will be a catalyst for economic growth, improving skills and productivity in a way that meets our commitments on climate change and a sustainable environment. The package includes detailed work to develop proposals for Appledore’s derelict Middle Dock, pilot schemes for sustainable fishing and aquaculture, and plans for a Woodland Enterprise Zone to boost our rural economy.
This is good news for my constituents and is a welcome sign that ministers recognise the need for more investment in the skills and life chances of people in Torridge and West Devon.”
