Geoffrey met local Dartmoor farmers and NFU representatives in Princetown today, Wednesday, 19 August 2020, to discuss a range of issues affecting the industry.
Among the topics discussed was the need for farmers to be directly involved in the creation of the new Domestic Agriculture Policy to ensure that it is fit for its purpose and provides the conditions for a prosperous farming industry, which is the bedrock of the local economy in rural areas like Torridge and West Devon. The importance of creating viable pathways for young people into the industry and enabling them to succeed was also discussed, as was bovine TB and the importance of livestock farming to local communities.
Geoffrey Cox said:
“Farming is a vital interest in our rural constituency and it is essential that during this period of transition and change the voices of our local farming families are heard loud and clear in Westminster and Whitehall. These discussions are vital to enable me to ensure they are.”
