Geoffrey is to chair a “Dartmoor Conference” for members of the farming community on the Moor on Thursday, 12 May.
The conference — which has been organised by Geoffrey, assisted by the NFU — will be attended among others by the Dartmoor National Park Authority and the Chief Executive of Natural England, Marian Spain. The purpose of the conference is to discuss the future of Dartmoor and to encourage a better dialogue between those who farm on the Moor and the government agencies responsible for its ecological and environmental health.
It will commence with a farm visit in the afternoon and there will be a plenary session in the evening.
Geoffrey said:
“Having held discussions with both local farmers and Natural England on the Moor last summer, it became clear to me that a better understanding of each other’s point of view would benefit the whole debate on the future of the Moor. I hope by bringing the senior representatives of Natural England to Dartmoor, our local farming families will feel they have been listened to, and that the planning and policy-making for Dartmoor will be informed by these discussions.”
