Following his visit to Westward Ho! in May, Geoffrey Cox, Member of Parliament for Torridge and West Devon, raised with Torridge District Council the issue concerning the lack of disabled access onto the beach. Following their response, he has now taken this matter up with the Environment Agency, pushing for a solution to be found.
He said: “Torridge District Council have advised me that as the Environment Agency are in the process of developing a flood defence scheme for Westward Ho!, within which the slipway and pebble ridge will be included, they are not in a position to provide a temporary solution.
“As a result of this I have written to the Environment Agency, urging them to accelerate this scheme and to ensure that disabled access is incorporated into their plans. I am also convening a meeting of all the relevant statutory authorities at the slipway to seek a solution to this problem.”
